Warriors shut down Pioneers, 2-0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior goalkeeper Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) extended her scoreless minutes streak to a career-best 186 minutes and junior forward Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) added two scores for the third straight game to help the Lycoming College women's soccer team post a 2-0 win over Alfred State in non-conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Winey finished with six saves for her second straight shutout and third of the season. She notched an athletic kick save in the second half to prevent a breakaway goal and preserve the shutout, as her three shutouts are already the most for the team since 2008, when Brie Pepe had five.

Lazarich, meanwhile, got the Warriors (5-2-1 overall) on the board with the team's second shot of the game with a breakaway in the 15th minute. Senior Leanne Shaw (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) delivered a bouncing through ball that Lazarich got to her feet, finishing the breakaway by finding the right corner.

In the 33rd minute, the Warriors added a second goal, when senior Kaylynn Gose (Mount Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) one-touched a pass to freshman Mackaella Goodwin (Madison, N.J./Madison), who delivered another one-touch lead pass to Lazarich, who delivered another breakaway goal.

A player that sets a new record with each goal she scores, Lazarich now has a school-record 42 goals and 92 points, as she has now scored 14 goals in all three seasons of her career. She is one goal shy of the school's single-season goals record of 15 set by Meghenn Jackson (2015) and Danielle Curry (2004).

In the second half, the Warriors played a man-up for more than 40 minutes, but could not dent the twine again, even as it peppered the Alfred State (3-4 overall) goal with 14 shots. Goodwin and junior Yasemin Yazici (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) each hit the crossbar in the period.

Alfred State Allison Danielak finished the game with 10 saves, as Lycoming fired 21 shots.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, Sept. 21, when they head to King's for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
