WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After opening the season with four of its first five games against teams that made the 2015 NCAA Division III Tournament, yielding two losses and two ties, the Lycoming College men's soccer team posted a 3-1 win over 19
th-ranked University of Scranton, its fifth opponent that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago, on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

The Warriors (3-2-2 overall), ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic region, upset the third-ranked Royals (5-1 overall) with three second-half goals, as Lycoming posted a win over a nationally-ranked program at the Shangraw Athletic Complex for the third straight year (No. 15 Rochester, 2-1 OT, 2014; No. 25 Messiah, 2-0, 2015; No. 21 Dickinson, 2-1, 2015).

After a first half that featured both teams coming up unsuccessful on scoring chances, with Lycoming taking seven shots and Scranton six, the Warriors got on the board with a corner kick in the 52
nd minute. Junior
Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) lifted a kick to the far side of the goal box, where junior
Kyle Thomas (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) headed it in.

The Warriors struck again in the 85

Mateo Velasquez (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) ran down the field on a counter attack, finding junior
Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area), who dropped a pass to junior
Nathan Harding (Secretary, Md./North Dorcester) in the box and Harding knocked it into the left corner.

Scranton answered with just over three minutes to play, with Jonathan Roberts finding the back of the net. The Warriors responded, though, as junior
Kyle Stettenbauer (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) found freshman
Stephen Riad (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), who beat the goalkeeper on a breakaway and found the left corner.

The Warriors finished with 15 shots, forcing Scranton keeper Eric Hintz into eight saves, while Scranton took 16 shots, with senior
Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) finishing with an impressive 10 stops.
