Warriors run past Mounties, 5-2

CRESSON, Pa. – Junior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and freshman Mackaella Goodwin (Madison, N.J./Madison) each notched two goals to lead the Lycoming College women's soccer team, as it overpowered Mount Aloysius, 5-2, in non-conference action at the Walker Athletic Soccer Field on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

With the score 3-1 entering the second half, Lazarich put the game out of reach with a two-goal flurry in the 54th and 57th minutes, scoring off breakaways on gives from senior Nour Hasan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) and junior Yasemin Yazici (Gambrills, Md./Arundel).

The two goals, added on to a first-half assist, give Lazarich 10 goals and one assist on the season and 38 goals and eight assists in her career. Her 84 points are one shy of the school record of 85 set by Bekah Shipe from 2005-08.

The Mounties (3-3 overall) added one goal late, scoring in the 84th minute, but Lycoming closed down Mount Aloysius the rest of the way to post the three-goal win.

The Warriors (3-2-1 overall) got started in the 10th minute, when Goodwin took a pass from senior Madison Walmer (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and chipped it over the goalkeeper's head just below the crossbar. Goodwin scored again just five minutes later, as Lazarich found her on a cross and Goodwin finished.

The Mounties closed within a goal less than minute later, but junior Hannah Rinaldo (Minersville, Pa./Minersville Area) made it 3-1 in the 20th minute, as she scored by founding the loose ball of a corner kick from senior Amanda Wisolmerski (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park).

Junior goalkeeper Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) stopped five shots, as Mount Aloysius took 12 in the game. Leanne Cardoso-Bast stopped six of Lycoming's 15 shots.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they host Penn State Harrisburg at 12 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
