Warriors fall to Wildcats in dual

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Zach Layser (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) led the Lycoming College golf team with a 14-over-par 85 to finish second during a dual meet with crosstown rival Penn College on a brisk Tuesday afternoon, April 5, at the par-71, 6,223-yard Williamsport Country Club. Penn College won the dual, 350-364, but Lycoming dropped 34 strokes off its previous round of 398 at the Susquehanna Invitational on Friday.
 
Layser posted seven pars during his round, as he equaled his career average of 85.5 en route to the second-place finish. Penn College's Ned Baumbach earned medalist honors with an 11-over par 82.
 
Freshman Alec Sabatino (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) took fourth with a score of 88, freshman Doug Urban (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) came in eighth at 95 and sophomore Hailey Fricke (Denver, Pa./Garden Spot) posted a score of 96 to tie for ninth, as she birdied the par-3, 122-yard No. 17.
 
Senior Jacob McClain (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) led Lycoming's 'B' squad, as he finished seventh in the field of 19 with a 94. The 'B' team posted a score of 417 to round out the scoring teams at the event.
 
The Warriors will get back on the course on Wednesday, April 13, when they head to Wyoming Valley Country Club for a tri-match with Scranton and King's (Pa.), with tee-off set for 1 p.m.
