WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.) became the first player in school history to eclipse 100 points in a season to highlight the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team's day against Lebanon Valley, falling 16-12, in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday, April 20, at Shangraw Athletic Complex.
Freshman Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) led the team with a four-goal performance. Jackson and sophomore Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) both recorded hat tricks while senior Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) scored twice to move within three goals of becoming the 17th player in school history to reach 100 in a career.
Jackson, meanwhile, recorded her 100th point of the season with her first goal. She finished the game with 72 goals, which is tied for second in program history, and she also has 30 assists.
The Flying Dutchmen (9-4 overall, 5-0 MAC Commonwealth) scored the first three goals of the game, but the Warriors (11-3 overall, 3-3 MAC Commonwealth) responded with three goals of their own to tie the game, 3-3, with 16:03 left in the first half. The Dutchmen scored three of the next four goals, with the Warrior goal coming from Fox. After Lazarich scored her third goal of the game, the Dutchmen closed out the half by scoring two to take an 8-5 halftime lead.
Jackson opened the second half scoring as she scored her second goal of the game just 16 seconds into the half after winning the draw control. The Dutchmen responded by scoring three of the next five goals, as McGinniss scored twice, to take an 11-8 lead. With 19:55 remaining, the Flying Dutchmen scored four straight goals in a 4:09 span to take a game-high seven goal lead. The Warriors rallied by scoring four goals in a row as well but, with 28 seconds left in the game, Sam Boyce scored for the Flying Dutchmen to yield the final margin.
Seniors Kelsey Harshman (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert) and Erica Spero (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) led the Warriors with three ground balls while McGinniss won five draw controls and Jackson won three. Junior Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown), Harshman, McGinniss and Spero each recorded one caused turnover on defense.
The Flying Dutchmen were led by Boyce and Emma Jones, as the duo scored four goals apiece with Boyce contributing one assist and Jones getting two. Alysa Bingham led the Flying Dutchmen with five ground balls while Emily Moatz came away with eight draw controls and Jones led the team with three caused turnovers.
Gerling (11-2) notched nine saves for the Warriors and Shelby Morris (9-4) got the win for the Flying Dutchmen, as she made four saves.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, April 23, when they travel to Albright for a pivotal MAC Commonwealth game at 1 p.m.?
