GLENSIDE, Pa. – The dynamic duo of senior
Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.) and sophomore
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) combined for 12 goals, including 10 in the second half, for the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team, as Lycoming scored 13 in the second half to post its ninth straight win, 18-7, over Arcadia in MAC Commonwealth action on Saturday afternoon, April 2, at Easton Field.
The Warriors improved to 9-0 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth, as the team moved within a win of tying the longest win streak in program history, set by the 2007 team that began its season 10-0 en route to a record-setting 14-4 season. The win over Arcadia (4-4, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) was the team's first over the Knights since 2011.
Jackson finished the game with six goals, giving her 50 on the season, and one assist, as she became just the eighth player in school history to reach 75 points in a season and the second to do it in back-to-back years. Lazarich also scored six times to give her 40 scores on the season, becoming the 19
th player in school history to reach that mark.
Junior
Leanne Shaw (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) provided a strong performance with three goals and three assists while freshman
Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) scored twice and added one assist for her ninth straight game with at least three points. Senior
Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) also recorded a goal and an assist.
After the Warriors took an early 2-0 lead, thanks to Jackson and Shaw, the Knights went on a 5-2 run to take a 5-4 lead with 4:17 left in the half after a goal by Erin Misner. Shaw answered with a score with 3:26 left to send the game to halftime tied at five.
In the second half, the Warriors scored the first three goals, two by Lazarich and one by Jackson, in the first 1:44. After surrendering a Knights' goal, the Warriors broke out by scoring the next eight goals of the game over a span of 12:13. Finally, after giving up just the second Knight goal of the second half, Lazarich tacked on two more scores in the final 4:23 to yield the final margin.
McGinniss and junior goalie
Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) led the way for the Warriors with five ground balls while Jackson picked up three. McGinniss won eight draw controls, while Lazarich and Jackson won five and four, respectively, as the team won 20 of 27. McGinniss also led the team on defense, causing two turnovers.
As a team, the Warriors held advantages in shots (37-22) and ground balls (16-9). The Warriors also limited themselves to five turnovers in the second half after having 10 in the first half.
The Knights were led by Allegra Benites and Dawn Faranetta. Benites finished with two goals and an assist while Faranetta notched one goal and two assists. Benites, Kathleen Finnegan and Sarah Obuchowski each picked up two ground balls. Minser led the Knights with three draw controls and Benites led the defense with three caused turnovers.
Gerling (9-0) got the win in net for the Warriors, stopping nine shots in 60 minutes. Jordyn Dunacusky (4-4) took the loss for the Knights, as she made eight saves.
The Warriors return to the field on Wednesday, April 6, when they travel to Messiah for a key 4 p.m. MAC Commonwealth matchup.?
