WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior
Elisa Novak (Ambler, Pa./Germantown Academy) and sophomore
Rachael Shady (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) collected two hits and drove in two runs each to lead the Lycoming College softball team in a doubleheader split against MAC Commonwealth-rival Arcadia on Saturday afternoon, Apr. 2, at Shangraw Athletic Complex. The Warriors won the first game, 9-5, but dropped the second, 5-0.
The Warriors overall record is 11-10 with a 1-5 MAC Commonwealth record while the Knights hold a 12-8 overall record and a 1-5 conference record.
Shady (6-3) got the win on the mound for the Warriors in the first game, pitching a complete game and giving up eight hits and five runs to go with two walks and three strikeouts.
In the first inning, sophomore
Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) led off with a walk and stole second. After a bunt single by Novak, Shady ripped a double into the left center field gap to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. In the second, with the bases loaded, Novak singled to right to drive in Schoenstadt and senior

Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) lined a ball down the left field line for a two-RBI single to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead.
After the Knights got a run back on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third, junior
Morgan Kunes (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) came up with the bases loaded and knocked a single through the left side for two RBI to take a 9-1 lead. After Arcadia scored once in the top of the fourth, the Knights tried to put together a rally in the seventh but came up short, scoring three runs on three hits.
The Warriors scratched out eight hits in the first game with one extra-base hit.
Erin Wilson (5-4), who had struck out 15 in a perfect game against Cairn on Thursday, took the loss in the circle, as she was knocked out in two innings after allowing eight runs on six hits. Kayla Resh pitched the final four innings for the Knights and gave up one run on two hits.
In the second game, Sarah Gunia (5-1) got the win for the Knights, as she pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Knights scored once in the first when Nicole Iasiello reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop to drive in Gunia. Gunia scored again in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Amanda Hess. In the fourth, Kristen Cancelliere doubled down the left field line to drive Resh in from first. In the seventh, Hess singled up the middle to drive in Gunia for a third time, followed by an RBI single from Alicia McMahon.
The Warriors collected two hits in the game, with Kunes extending her hitting streak to 12 games by breaking up the no-hitter in the fourth inning. The 12-game hitting streak is tied for the fourth-longest in school history and just five games from the school record. Senior
Ashley Burger (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) also had a sixth-inning single.
Weaver (4-6) took the loss for the Warriors in the second game, finishing with a complete game, as she gave up five runs on 13 hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Knights were led by McMahon, who finished the day 5-for-7 with two RBI. Hess contributed three hits, two RBI and two runs while Jackie Bilotti knocked four hits and drove in a run.
The Warriors return to the field on Tuesday, April 5, when they host non-conference foe Susquehanna in the Cancer Awareness Cup doubleheader, which starts at 3 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
