Jackson’s historic day powers Warriors past Misericordia

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.) led the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team, as she tied a single-game school record with 12 points in the team's 16-6 victory over Misericordia in the team's final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday afternoon, March 30, at Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Jackson became the sixth player in program history to record 12 points in a game and the first to do it since Grace Gargiulo (2011), who also accomplished the feat against Misericordia. Jackson, who finished with eight goals and four assists, is the 13th player in program history to record at least eight goals in a single game and the first to do it since Gargiulo.

Sophomore Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and freshman Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) each scored four goals for the team. Junior Leanne Shaw (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) had two assists, and senior Kelsey Harshman (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert) contributed one assist.

After Jackson gave the Warriors (8-0 overall) an early 1-0 lead, the Cougars (2-6 overall) fired back with two goals to take a 2-1 lead with 21:17 left in the first half. After that, the Warriors were able to find a rhythm on offense, as they scored eight of the next nine goals to end the half and went into halftime with a 9-3 lead.

In the second half, the Warriors scored three of the first four goals to extend the lead to 12-4. The Cougars fought back quickly, scoring two out of the next three goals in just 66 seconds, but Jackson scored and added the assist on the last two goals to make up the final 10-goal margin.

McGinniss won eight draw controls and was 2-for-2 on free position opportunities. Lazarich won four draw controls, scooped up a team-high four groundballs and led the team with two caused turnovers. Freshmen Thamina Peti (York, Pa./West York Area) and Kim Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area), Jackson and senior Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) each picked up three groundballs.

Olivia Garcia and Erin Baker led the way for the Cougars, as both players scored twice. McKim and goalie Taylor McLoughlin picked up four groundballs and Taylor Simeone caused three turnovers.

Junior Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) (8-0) got the win in net for the Warriors, as she made nine saves and played all 60 minutes. McLoughlin (2-6) took the loss for the Cougars, as she stopped 10 shots.

The Warriors will return to the field on Saturday, April 2, when they travel to Arcadia for the MAC Commonwealth opener at 1 p.m.
