CARLISLE, Pa. – Sophomore
Hailey Fricke (Denver, Pa./Garden Spot) fired a personal-best 89 to kick off the 2016 Lycoming College golf season, as the team finished with its best opening round since posting 2009 while finishing fifth at the Dickinson Invitational at the par-70, 6,412-yard Mayapple Golf Links on Wednesday afternoon, March 23.
The Warriors had three scores of less than 90 and posted a round of 355, its best opening round since the 2009 squad posted a 349 at the Dickinson Invitational.
Senior
Zach Layser (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) led the Warriors with a 9-over-par 79 to finish in 12
th in the field of 25 golfers. Freshman
Alec Sabatino (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) added a round of 86 to finish 20
th and Fricke's 89 bested her freshman year best of 97 by eight strokes.
Rounding out the Warriors lineup, sophomore
Corey Twaddell (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) finished with a 101 and junior
Cale Rice (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) notched a 109 in their first collegiate rounds.
The Warriors get back in action on Friday, April 1, when they head to the Susquehanna Invitational at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club. Tee-off is set for 12:30 p.m.
