Warriors cruise past Gwynedd Mercy, 19-3

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.) became the 11th player in school history to score 100 career goals and the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team used 14 first-half goals to build an insurmountable lead, cruising to a 19-3 win over non-conference foe Gwynedd Mercy on Monday afternoon, March 21, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
 
Sophomore Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) finished with six points (three goals, three assists) while Jackson, who entered the game averaging a Division III-best 8.5 points per game, notched a game-high four goals and an assist. Freshman Kelly McGinnis (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and senior Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) were the other two Warriors to finish with a hat trick, as McGinnis scored four times and Fox finished with three goals and an assist.
 
Freshman Thamina Peti (York, Pa./West York Area) and junior Leanne Shaw (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) both scored two goals while freshman Kim Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors with a late second-half goal.
 
The Warriors (7-0 overall) built a 13-0 lead in the first half, including a 5-0 lead just 5:07 into the game. Jackson scored the third goal of the game for the Warriors, her second of the day, to reach the 100-goal milestone, cutting to the net and taking a quick pass from Shaw behind the net. After Lauren Mitros got the Griffins (1-4) on the board with 4:08 remaining in the first half, Fox answered for the Warriors with her second goal of the game.
 
Brianna Greer got the scoring started in the second half for the Griffins, but the Warriors finished the game by scoring five of the next six goals to yield the final margin.
 
Fox anchored the Warriors, as she picked up five ground balls and McGinnis added two. McGinnis also won six draw controls, Lazarich took four and sophomore Jenna Hudson (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) won three, as the team won 17 of 24 in the game.
 
As a team, the Warriors held an advantage in shots (28-13), ground balls (15-13), and were a perfect 12-for-12 on clear attempts and scored on their only free-position shot while holding the Griffins to 0-for-4.
 
Junior Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) (7-0)started in net for the Warriors and got the win while freshman Megan Bozarth (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla) came on in relief for the second half. Gerling finished with one save and Bozarth finished with five. Bria Gillard (1-4) played all 60 minutes in net for the Griffins, making four saves.
 
The Warriors will get back on the field on Wednesday, March 30, as they host Misericordia in their final non-conference game of the season at 4 p.m. at Shangraw Athletic Complex.?
