Warriors’ season comes to an end at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Freshman Jenn Grove (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) and sophomore Shelby Mueller (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) led the Lycoming College women's basketball team with eight points, but a solid defensive effort from Lebanon Valley ended Lycoming's season, 55-36, in the first round of the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Monday night, February, 22, at Sorrentino Gym.
 
The Warriors finish the 2015-16 season with a 14-12 overall record and a 9-7 MAC Commonwealth record while the Flying Dutchmen improve to 17-9 and will face top-seeded Albright in the semifinals on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
 
Grove shot 3-for-4 from the field while Mueller shot 4-for-8 from the field. Senior Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) finished with six points, four assists, and two steals. Junior Nicole Calella (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) finished with five points and four rebounds and sophomore Haley Sipple (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds.
 
Senior Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) hit a three in the second quarter which tied her with Kim Wood (1989-90) for second most made 3-pointers in a single season (51). Manges also finished the season with a 3-point shooting percentage of .359, the ninth-best mark in a single season. Henderson's two steals moved her into 10th place for most steals in a single-season (66) while Calella finished the season with the fifth-most assists in a season in school history (130).
 
Henderson finished her career with 699 points and as the only player in school history with 150 career steals (154, eighth in program history) and 50 blocked shots (eighth in program history). Mangesfinished her career 14th in program history with 855 career points, while her 99 games played and 138 3-pointers are both second in program annals. Her 185 assists are also tied for 12th in program history.
 
The Flying Dutchmen, who had lost to Lycoming twice in the regular season including a 77-68 win on Saturday, came out strong as they took an early 13-2 lead to open the game. After both teams exchanged four points, the Flying Dutchmen went on a run of 10 straight points which went into the second quarter to take a 27-6 lead. The Warriors outscored the Flying Dutchmen, 16-6, the rest of the quarter to go into halftime with a 33-22 deficit.
 
After both teams exchanged buckets to begin the third, Mueller hit a layup to cut the deficit down to single digits for the first time since the first quarter. The Flying Dutchmen came back and closed the quarter with a 10-2 run to push the lead back up to 45-30 entering the fourth. Mueller hit a tough hook shot in the paint to begin the fourth, but the Flying Dutchmen held a 10-6 advantage in the quarter to yield the final margin.
 
As a team, the Warriors forced 20 turnovers, blocked five shots, and came away with eight steals. However, Lebanon Valley used the big first quarter to keep a solid advantage through the night, while shooting 38 percent from the floor and holding Lycoming to 30 percent.
 
Kiely Chaklos led the way for the Flying Dutchmen as she scored a game-high 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Senior Peyton Carper contributed 11 points on 4-for-10 shooting, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.?
