WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior point guards
Willie Kee (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) and
David Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) combined for 34 points to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team, but Albright College shot 44 percent from the floor in the second half to comeback for a 65-59 MAC Commonwealth win on Wednesday night, Feb. 10, at Lamade Gym.
The Warriors (15-8 overall, 7-7 MAC Commonwealth) slipped into a tie for fourth place in the MAC Commonwealth with Albright (10-13 overall, 7-7 MAC Commonwealth), as the league's standings got even more tight, with six teams tied within a game of third place in the league, where Lebanon Valley sits at 7-6. Hood, Widener and Stevenson are all tied for sixth at 6-7.
Kee finished with a career-high 18 points, as he scored 16 in the first half, as he hit 7-of-10 from the floor and two 3-pointers. Johnson added 16 points, six rebounds and three assists. Sophomore
Chris Wallace (Randallstown, Md./Calvert Hall) added nine points and seven rebounds.
Freshman
T.J. Duckett (Severna Park, Md./Calvert Hall) and Kee opened the second half with layups to help Lycoming take a 38-28 lead with 18:40 left. The Lions fought right back with 11 straight points, as DeJuan Smith hit a free throw with 14:13 left to take a 39-38 lead.
After that, the teams fought through three more lead changes and four ties, with senior
John Monkam (Lanham, Md./DuVal) fighting into the lane and hitting a hook shot as the shot clock wound down to give Lycoming a 50-48 lead with 7:12 left. However, Evan Dunn and Omari Ringgold followed with back-to-back 3-pointers to give Lyoming a 54-50 lead.
Lycoming was able to close within a possession twice more, with the last time coming off a layup by Wallace with 1:15 left, but Albright responded with two layups and Lycoming was unable to get closer than five points the rest of the way.
Albright jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening moments before Lycoming fought back to take a 13-12 lead. After pair of lead changes, the Lions stretched the lead to four points at 24-20 off a tip-in from Ringgold with 8:14 left. Lycoming took control from there, posting a run of 14 straight points, as Johnson capped the rally with a jumper to make it 34-24 with 2:31 left. The Lions cut the lead to 34-28 at the break with a pair of buckets in the final moments.
Ringgold led the Lions with 21 points and four assists and Smith finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Brandon Lindsay added 11 points, as Albright shot 44 percent (24-of-55) from the field and 8-of-17 from 3-point range.
The Warriors get back into action on Saturday, Feb. 13, when they host Hood at 3 p.m. on Senior Day at Lamade Gym. Before the game, seniors
Eric Ishman (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King), Monkam and
Armani Taylor (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bowie) will be honored in a brief ceremony.
