Warriors rout Lions, 5-1

READING, Pa. – A sterling offensive performance in the second half led to five goals on 13 shots to help the Lycoming College men's soccer team post a 5-1 MAC Commonwealth win at Albright College on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 5, at Shirk Stadium.

Lycoming (6-3-3 overall, 1-0-1 MAC Commonwealth) extended its MAC Commonwealth regular-season unbeaten streak to 15 games thanks to a four-goal outburst in the final 30 minutes against Albright to break a 1-1 tie. The Warriors are 9-1 against Albright since joining the MAC Commonwealth in 2007.

Junior Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) broke the tie in the 62nd minute as junior Mateo Velasquez (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) crossed a ball to the far post that met Logan's head for the score. Ten minutes later, freshman Steven Riad (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) ran down the sideline and crossed the keeper up with a shot to the left side for his fourth goal of the year.

Just five minutes later, senior Jason Coles (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) drove down the left side and fired a shot into the far post side of the net for his first goal of the year and sophomore Evan Zewe (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) fired a shot after an Albright turnover with 26 seconds left to round out the scoring.

The Warriors got on the board in the 58th minute, as junior Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) drove down the sideline before drawing the goalkeeper out before dishing a pass to freshman Daniel Anwanwan (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson), who one-touched it into the net. Anthony Parlato tied the score for Albright (2-7-2 overall, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) on a shot low into the corner less than 90 seconds later, igniting the Warrior rally.

Senior Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) (4-1-1) stopped one shot in 81 minutes in net against five Albright shots before sophomore Chris Solecki (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) played the last nine minutes. Billy Mullen stopped nine of Lycoming's 30 in the game.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 8, when they host Alvernia in another MAC Commonwealth clash.
