WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior
Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) posted 14 kills and hit .320 to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team, but a solid-hitting Lebanon Valley posted a 3-1 (25-17, 25-12, 26-28, 25-23) MAC Commonwealth win on Tuesday night, Oct. 28, but Lycoming still locked up the fifth-seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship despite the loss.

The Warriors (14-17 overall, 3-5 MAC Commonwealth) locked up the fifth-seed thanks to a 3-0 win by Messiah over Albright. Lycoming will visit fourth-seeded Widener in the opening round of the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Monday night, Oct. 31.

Whitman also added six digs and two blocks for the Warriors, while senior
Kristine Jahn (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added 12 kills. Sophomore
Cheyenne Altland (East Berlin, Pa./Delone Catholic) added nine kills and two blocks and freshman
Alysa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added eight kills and two blocks.

Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) finished with 16 digs and freshman
Lindsay Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown Community) finished with 12 digs. Junior
Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) posted 36 assists, six digs and three aces and freshman
Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) finished with eight assists and five digs.

The Warriors were able to take the third set, jumping out to a 22-15 lead before the Flying Dutchmen (20-7 overall, 6-1 MAC Commonwealth) rallied to tie it at 22. The teams traded sideouts from there, and Lycoming ran out of subs in the set, choosing to play with both setters, Burger and Morris on the court for the last six points. The decision paid off, as Burger put the first of two straight Warrior points on the floor before Morris added the second on a perfect sneak-attack kill.

In the fourth set, the two teams fought to a tie at 18 before Lebanon Valley scored three points in a row and traded sideouts with the Warriors from there to earn the narrow 25-23 win.

Jess Attieh led Lebanon Valley, which hit .288 in the match, with 15 kills and eight digs and Greta Weidemoyer posted 10 kills, 24 assists, eight digs and four blocks. Amber Deshong added 11 kills and three blocks and Abbey Barnhart finished with six aces and 13 digs. Morgan Webb also posted nine digs and six aces.

The Warriors get back on the court on Friday, Oct. 28, when they head to Eastern for a quad-match that starts with a 7 p.m. match against the 13
th-ranked Eagles.
