CHESTER, Pa. – Senior
Kristine Jahn (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) posted 14 kills to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team, but Widener University edged out Lycoming in three extremely close sets, 3-0 (27-25, 30-28, 25-22), in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Schwartz Center.

Jahn finished with 14 kills, hitting .310, senior
Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) added eight kills and five blocks and sophomore
Cheyenne Altland (East Berlin, Pa./Delone Catholic) posted seven kills and a block. Junior
Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) notched 22 assists and two aces and freshman
Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) added 11 assists, five digs and two kills.

Defensively, sophomore
Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) led the Warriors (14-16 overall, 3-4 MAC Commonwealth) added 14 digs and senior
Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) finished with four kills, an ace and seven digs.

The Warriors fell behind, 16-11, in the first set but fought back thanks to five straight points off Burger's serve, getting the lead to 20-17 before Widener responded with five straight points. The Warriors won four of the next five points, though, to get the first set point after an ace by Morris. However, Widener was able to close it out at 27-25 with a pair of kills.

In the second set, Lycoming built a 9-3 lead before the Pride rallied to take a 12-11 lead. Lycoming got the lead back to 20-17 before Widener rallied to tie it at 21 and the teams traded sideouts before a pair of points clinched the set for the Pride, 30-28.

Lycoming again took a 12-8 lead in the third set and held a 20-18 lead before Widener closed out on a 7-2 run to take the set.

Nicole Dorman led the Pride (11-16 overall, 3-3 MAC Commonwealth) with 21 kills and Janie Kalinock added nine kills and three blocks. Natalie Winn added eight kills and Sabrina Barbieri posted 35 assists, two aces and five digs. Caroline Dangel led the team with 15 digs and Ashley McAfee added 12.

The Warriors get back on the court with their final MAC Commonwealth match of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when they face Lebanon Valley at 7 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
