Lazarich takes down another record and the Dutchmen

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) ran into the box chasing down the ball off the hop, as the goalkeeper ran toward the ball. At the ball bounced off the Shangraw Athletic Complex turf, Lazarich stuck her left leg out and kicked the ball to the left of the keeper and into the net, giving the Lycoming College women's soccer team a 3-2 overtime win over Lebanon Valley College in MAC Commonwealth action on a beautiful Tuesday, Oct. 18.

The goal, in the third minute of the first overtime period, helped Lazarich shatter the school record of 38 points in a season, set by Danielle Curry in 2004, as her five points in the game off two goals and an assist give her 40 on the season. Lazarich also has a school-record 19 goals and six game-winning goals this season and she holds career records of 102 points and 47 goals.

Lycoming (7-8-2 overall, 1-5 MAC Commonwealth) stayed in the race for a MAC Commonwealth playoff spot with their first win over Lebanon Valley (8-5 overall, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth) since a 1-0 win in 2008.

Lebanon Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 30 minutes, as Sammy Bost scored twice to take overall the conference lead in goals with 18.

Lazarich, meanwhile, was in the midst of a frustrating half, as her first two shots on goal were turned away by Lebanon Valley's keeper with nice plays in 1-v-1 opportunities. However, in the 33rd minute, a foul drawn on her in the box changed momentum and Lazarich drilled her 18th goal of the season on a penalty kick.

In the second half, Lebanon Valley continued to pressure, taking 12 shots, but junior goalkeeper Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) stopped seven shots thanks to outstanding positioning to keep it a one-goal game.

Finally, in the 82nd minute, Lycoming was pressuring just outside the box when Lazarich looked to the left side of the field, where she found senior Nour Hasan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin), who launched a 25-yard shot into the right corner to tie it. The Flying Dutchmen responded, taking three shots, with Winey making two saves after that, but Lycoming finished the half in control, getting three corner kicks in the final 2:30 of the half.

In overtime, Lebanon Valley got the first two shots, the last of which Winey easily stopped and then Lycoming pressured, drawing a corner kick, where the ball was kicked out of danger initially before senior Leanne Shaw (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) got to the ball and lift a through ball into the box for Lazarich, who met up with it for the golden goal.

Winey finished the game with 12 saves off 24 Lebanon Valley shots and Taylor Reinhold stopped six of Lycoming's 12 shots in net.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 22, when they head to Hood College for a key MAC Commonwealth game at 12:15 p.m.
