WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Former high school teammates, senior
Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) and junior
Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) were named the Co-MVPs of the 18
th annual Lycoming College Tip-Off Tournament, as Lycoming finished the tournament a perfect 4-0 with 3-0 sweeps of Wilkes and Misericordia on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Lamade Gym.
Richardson averaged 3.00 kills per set and she hit a team-best 3.83 while also adding a team-best 1.17 aces per set during the tournament. She also added 0.50 blocks per set. Fink added 2.69 kills per set while hitting .353. The all-around player also added 0.46 aces, 3.38 digs and 0.23 blocks per set.
Lycoming (12-5 overall) hit .282 (45-14-110) to outlast Misericordia University (6-12 overall), 25-12, 25-23, 25-22, in the final match of the tournament to secure the team's seventh Tip-Off Tournament and first since 2012. Three players – Richardson and juniors
Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) notched 10 kills in the match.
Sophomore
Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) posted 40 assists and eight digs and Fink finished with seven kills, three aces and 11 digs. Freshman
Cheyenne Altland (East Berlin, Pa./DeLone Catholic) added seven kills and four blocks and freshman
Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) added 18 digs.
Paige Shaughnessy led the Cougars with 12 kills and Nicole Tagerty finished with 32 assists and 12 digs. Meghan Stack notched nine kills and Michelle Sehested added eight.
Earlier in the day, the Warriors easily handled Wilkes (9-9 overall), 25-18, 25-8, 25-19, as Fink posted 12 kills and 12 digs and Richardson posted 10 kills, two aces and three blocks.
Whitman added eight kills and six digs and Burger posted 33 assists, four digs and two blocks. Hepner notched 12 digs, as Lycoming posted 50 digs on 101 Wilkes attacks.
Ellen Mook led the Colonels with 12 kills and a block and Megan Powers added 24 assists and five digs. Alexis Morgan also posted 10 digs.
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Sept. 29, when they head to Lebanon Valley for an important MAC Commonwealth match with first serve set for 7 p.m.
