Warriors fall to Widener in five

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Five Lycoming College volleyball players finished in double figures in kills, led by a career-high from junior Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff), but Widener University was able to win the last three sets in order to take a 3-2 (17-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 15-10) MAC Commonwealth decision on Wednesday night, Sept. 23, at Lamade Gym.

The Warriors (8-5 overall, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) started out the match by hitting .405 (20-5-37) in the first set and notching a 60 percent (14-of-23) sideout percentage in the second set, but Widener (9-6 overall, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) came back to hit .313 (34-8-83) and post a 69 percent (35-of-51) sideout percentage in the last three sets to earn the win, avenging a five-set loss in the first round of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament in 2014.

Whitman led the team with 15 kills and six digs, surpassing her previous career best of 14 kills set against Elizabethtown in 2014. Senior Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) added 14 kills, hitting .346, and sophomore Cheyenne Altland (East Berlin, Pa./Delone Catholic) added 12 kills, hitting .333.
