CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Senior
Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.) broke the school record by scoring in her fifth straight game and the Lycoming College women's soccer team survived a first-half rally by Summit University to post a 5-2 non-conference win on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 17.
Â
With the score tied at two, Jackson took control for the Warriors, notching her record-setting goal in the 39
th minute, getting a cross from sophomore
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) in the box before she buried it.
Â
For good measure, Jackson added her 10
th goal of the season in the 48
th minute, scoring on a through ball by sophomore
Hannah Rinaldo (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) to give the Warriors a two-goal cushion. Lycoming rounded out the scoring in the 87
th minute, as Lazarich dropped in her second goal of the game on a penalty kick.
Â
Jackson's 10 goals are already seventh in the school's single season record book and just five shy of the school record of 15 held by Danielle Curry (2004). Meanwhile, Lazarich's seven goals this season give her 21 in her career, as she became the sixth player in school history to reach 20 career goals.
Â
The Warriors (5-2 overall) got started early in the game, with Rinaldo dropped in a through ball to Lazarich, who found the back of the net in the sixth minute.
Â
However, the Defenders (2-3 overall) responded in the 15
th minute before senior
Nour Hasan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 21
st minute to give Lycoming a 2-1 lead. The Defenders responded again, tying the game in the 29
th minute.
Â
Lazarich led the Warriors with two goals and an assist, as Lycoming fired 31 shots in the game. Jackson added two goals and Rinaldo posted two assists.
Â
Summit's Elysia Hinkel made 10 saves, while Lycoming's freshman
Helen Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) stopped two of Summit's eight shots.
Â
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host Anne Arundel Community College at 11 a.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex as part of Family Weekend.
