WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior
Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.) scored two first-half goals to pace a group of four Lycoming College women's soccer team scorers, as Lycoming's high-flying offense led it to a 5-1 win over Mount Aloysius in non-conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
Â
Jackson got the Warriors (4-2 overall) started early in the game, scoring in the sixth minute when sophomore
Hannah Rinaldo (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) delivered a great through ball for Jackson, who fired a shot high into the left corner.
Â
She added another score in the 20
th minute, breaking down the sideline past a defender and firing a shot from the right side into the center of the net.
Â
Jackson has tied a school-record by scoring in four straight games, a record set by Donna Mongiello from Sept. 23-29, 2001 and tied by Kati Shaner from Sept. 8-18, 2010.
Â
Lycoming continued to pressure in the second half, with sophomore
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) drawing a foul in the box and converting her fifth goal of the season on the ensuing penalty kick.
Â
Junior
Amanda Wisolmerski (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) kept the team rolling thanks to her big leg off corner kicks. In the 48
th minute, she delivered a corner through the box that found the head of senior
Katie Cox (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill), who put it in the far post. In the 59
th minute, Wisolmerski fired a corner into the box that found Lazarich's foot, who dropped a quick pass to senior
Riley Zimmerman (Port Royal, Pa./Juniata), who scored her second career goal with a hard point-blank shot.
Â
Jackson's eight goals are already tied for 11
th in school history and just six games into the season, she is seven goals shy of the school record of 15 set by Danielle Curry in 2004. Her 18 points off eight goals and two assists are just four outside the top 10 in school history.
Â
The Mounties scored late in the game off a free kick to prevent the shutout, but freshman
Helen Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) still improved to 4-2 on the season with a four-save effort. Mount Aloysius' Zara Apakoh also made four stops in the loss, as Lycoming took 16 shots in the game.
Â
The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host Anne Arundel Community College at 11 a.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
