Warriors fall late to Eagles

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.) scored in her third straight game for the Lycoming College women's soccer team, but two goals in the final 12 minutes helped Juniata College finish with a 4-2 non-conference win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Sunday, Sept. 13.

The Warriors (3-2 overall) entered the second half down a goal and appeared to get an equalizer just two minutes into the half when sophomore Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) finished off an opportunity by firing a shot into the right corner, but she was called offsides to negate the goal.

The Warriors, who took just three shots in the first half, continued to pressure, though, and Jackson was able to get the equalizer in the 57th minute, as Jackson ran along the goal box line before ditching her defender and firing a shot off the crossbar and into the right corner of the net for her sixth goal of the year.

In the 78th minute, Jackson was fouled in the box, but Juniata keeper Erin Mueller came up with a  huge stop and the Eagles (2-2 overall) found the back of the net just a minute later on a deep shot into the right corner from Maggie Pozenel. Less than a minute later, Anna Kauffman finished off a hat trick she started with two goals in the first half to ensure the win.

The Warriors got on the board first, with junior Amanda Wisolmerski (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) delivering a corner kick into the box that senior Katie Cox (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) was there to head in the seventh minute.

Kauffman gave the Eagles the lead before the end of the half, though, with scores in the 26th and 40th minutes.

Freshman goalkeeper Helen Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) stopped six shots in the game for Lycoming while Mueller stopped five shots, although the Eagle defense also kicked two balls off the goalline.

The Warriors get back on the field on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they host Mount Aloysius at 3:30 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
