Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warriors shut down Golden Tornadoes, 2-0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – On a day that predicted sever weather, the Lycoming College men's soccer team was able to hold off the storm from the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes as well as the predictions of lightning to post a 2-0 non-conference win on a rainy Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

In the first half, both teams struggled to get their footing in a driving rain, with Lycoming (4-1 overall) notching seven shots while Geneva (3-1-1 overall) notched two. The Warriors had a few quality chances, with sophomore Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) beating the last defender, but a shot from 20 yards out went just wide. Lycoming persisted, though, getting on the board in the 85th minute, as Geneva was whistled for a handball in the box and sophomore Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) converted the ensuing penalty kick.

It was more of the same in the second half, with the Warriors controlling play for most of the period, holding the Tornadoes to just five shots in the entire game while firing 16. The Warriors tacked on the insurance score in the 86th minute, as sophomore Kyle Stettenbauer (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) fired a one-timer into the left corner from 18 yards out after the ball ricocheted out to him when Geneva was trying to clear the ball.

Lycoming held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks and forced Geneva keeper Luke Nolan to make four saves, while junior goalkeeper Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) stopped three to earn his second shutout of the season.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when they host rival Juniata in a 4:30 p.m. game at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
