Warriors fall to Crusaders in River Derby

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women's soccer team opened the 2015 season on a warm Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex, falling to Susquehanna University, 3-0, in the ninth annual River Derby.

Lycoming (0-1 overall) was led by freshman Helen Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley), as the goalkeeper made nine stops in her debut in net. Sophomore Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) led the offense with two shots.

The Crusaders (1-0 overall) got on the board with a breakaway goal in the 27th minute from Cassandra Coombs and added another score three minutes later. Early in the second half, the Crusaders rounded out the scoring on a goal from Alyssa Bolger.

Susquehanna finished with 18 shots in the game, while Lycoming took just four. However, Susquehanna keeper Jordyn Slocum did have to make three saves to preserve the shutout.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 5, when they host Gwynedd Mercy at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
