Warriors tripped up by Eagles in overtime

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite holding MAC Freedom favorite Eastern University to just five shots, the Lycoming College men's soccer team fell to Eastern, 1-0, in an overtime clash at the Shangraw Athletic Complex that extended into late evening on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

The Warriors (0-1 overall) outshot the Eagles (1-0 overall), 12-5, including one shot that hit the post, but could not find the back of the net.

Eastern got the game's lone goal in the 94th minute when Hunter Rosenberg crossed a ball from the 12 into the box where it found the head of Cade Harmon, who lofted his header just over the outstretched hands of the Lycoming keeper and just below the crossbar.

Lycoming had its best chance in the first half when sophomore Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) found space near midfield, beat a pair of defenders, passed to sophomore Mateo Valesquez (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) to start a 2-on-1 break. Valesquez bounced it back to Abdi, who took a shot off the right post.

Eastern's goalkeeper Quentin Keibler made two saves to earn the shutout and junior goalkeeper Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) played all 94 minutes for Lycoming, allowing one goal.

The loss ends a 12-game winning streak for the Warriors at the Shangraw Athletic Complex, the longest since moving to the turf field in 2005, as it began Nov. 2, 2013.

The Warriors get back on the field on Friday, Sept. 4, when it heads to Scranton for a 7 p.m. contest.
