WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A first-game comeback was followed by a wire-to-wire win in game two as the Lycoming College softball team swept Penn College, 15-7 and 6-4, in non-conference action at Elm Park on Thursday afternoon, April 16.

After falling behind by two runs, Lycoming scored 10 runs to rally back in the last two frames to take a 15-7 decision in the first game.

Down by two runs in the sixth, the Warriors rallied with five runs in the top of the sixth thanks to five hits and three walks. Sophomore
Morgan Kunes (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) started the rally with a one-out single. She took second on a groundout and stole third before scoring on a single to center by junior
Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area). Weaver took second on an error before senior
Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) walked. Sophomore
Kelcie Crabb (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg) tied the game with a high single into left field before back-to-back-walks by freshman
Heather Secord (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) and junior
Ashley Burger (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) scored Lapano.

The rally continued as junior
Dominique Thomas (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) singled to left field and junior
Chelsey Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) singled to center to score two more runs.

Lycoming tacked five more runs on in the seventh inning, as senior
Katie Pugh (Sykesville, Md./Century) singled to lead off before two errors loaded the bases. Pugh scored on a wild pitch before Crabb walked to reload the bases. After a pop out, senior
Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge Area) delivered a single to center field. After a walk loaded the bases, Kunes doubled into the right center gap to score two more runs.

Lycoming took a two-run lead in the fourth thanks to a three-hit frame. Junior
Dominique Thomas (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) led off with a single down the left field line before junior
Chelsey Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) hit a ball through the left side to reach. After a sac bunt by Kunes moved them up a base, a groundout helped Thomas score Weaver delivered a two-out single to center field.

The Wildcats responded with a four-run frame in the bottom of the fourth, using four hits and an error to score the runs. A two-RBI single by Jessica Gmerek gave the Wildcats a 7-5 lead.

The Warriors got right to work in the first inning, scoring three runs off one hit. Kunes led off by getting hit by a pitch, before Pugh laid down a sac bunt before reaching due to a fielding error. Weaver followed with a walk to load the bases Lapano delivered a two-RBI line single to right-center. A sac fly by Crabb helped Weaver score the last run of the frame.

Penn College drew within a run in the bottom of the second, scoring the second run off a single down the right field line by Stephanie Kramer. The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the third, when they used three hits to get a run across.

Five Warriors posted two hits in the game, with Weaver leading the team, going 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Both Kunes and Lapano had two hits, two runs and two RBI and Thomas and Poorman each had two hits, a run and RBI.

Breanna Abbey led the Wildcats with two hits, two runs and a RBI. Both Macie Lucas and Samantha Hill also added two of the team's 12 hits.

Lapano (6-3) earned the win for the Warriors, as she allowed seven hits and two earned runs in four innings of relief. She struck out two. Shelby Lyter (2-7) took the loss, allowing 12 hits and five walks in four innings. She struck out three.

In the second game, the Warriors scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, as Weaver tossed a complete game to earn a 6-4 win, as Lycoming picked up its first doubleheader sweep of the season.

The Warriors jumped out with three more runs in the top of the first inning, as Poorman singled before a sac bunt moved her to second. Weaver followed with a triple to deep center to score Poorman before she scored on a single to left by Kunes. Kunes reached third on a fielding error and scored on a groundout.

Penn College scored two runs thanks to two hits and two errors in the bottom of the inning to make it a one-run game.

Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) followed with a two-RBI double in the center field gap.

Penn College closed within a run again in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs on three hits, including a two-RBI single by Karey Wolfe. The Warriors came back in the seventh with an insurance run in the seventh inning, as Kunes singled to lead off, took second on a sac bunt, third on an illegal pitch and scored on a fielder's choice.

Kunes led the Warriors in the second game, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs and Schoenstadt finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Karey Wolfe led the Wildcats, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and both Jessica Gmerek and Alexandra Brennan each added two hits.

Weaver (5-5) allowed 10 hits and two earned runs in the complete game, as she struck out three and walked none. Lyter (2-8) took the loss, allowing four earned runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, April 16, when they host Widener University in an important Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
