WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning helped the Lycoming College softball team walk off with a 5-4 win in the first game of Monday, April 13's doubleheader with Misericordia before Misericordia rebounded with an 8-0 six-inning win to take the second game on the non-conference doubleheader at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
Â
A pinch-hit two-RBI single by junior
Elisa Novak (Ambler, Pa./Germantown Academy) and a walk-off infield hit by senior
Kalie Moeller (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) helped the Warriors (12-10 overall) come-from-behind for the 5-4 win in the first game.
Â
The Warriors started the seventh inning rally when junior
Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) led off with a single up the middle before senior
Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) doubled into the gap, putting the tying run at second base. After a pitching change and a popup, Novak came on to pinch-hit and went opposite field over the second baseman's head to score the two runs.
Â
Lycoming kept the rally going as junior
Dominique Thomas (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) was hit by a low pitch. The runners moved up a base due to a wild pitch before sophomore
Kelcie Crabb (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg) walked to load the bases for Moeller. Moeller delivered with a hard hit liner that the Misericordia shortstop dove to stop, but couldn't make a play on, allowing all the runners to move up a base.
Â
The Warriors got on the board first, scoring in the bottom of the second. Thomas led off with a double in the gap, took third with a delayed one-out steal and scored on a perfect squeeze bunt with two outs by sophomore
Morgan Kunes (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain).
Â
The Cougars (17-9 overall) tied the game in the third inning thanks to a pair of errors and a single from Melanie Quintanilla. They added two more runs in the fifth inning, using three singles in the frame along with a walk and an error to score the runs.
Â
The Warriors closed within a run in the sixth inning, as Thomas led off with a walk, stole second, took third on a single to center field by Crabb and scored on a one-out sac fly by junior
Ashley Burger (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area).
Â
Misericordia tacked on another run in the top of the seventh to make it 4-2, as Meg Hardy delivered the one-out RBI single.
Â
Thomas led the Warriors, going 2-for-2 with two runs, a double, a walk and a hit batter. Weaver went 2-for-4 with a run, as Lycoming posted 10 hits in the game.
Â
Melissa Parker led the Cougars, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and Hardy finished 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
Shady (3-2) earned her third win in as many starts, tossing a complete game and allowing nine hits and two earned runs. She struck out two and walked two to earn the win. Alissa Steier went six-plus innings for the Cougars, allowing eight hits and four runs in the no-decision. Maddie Stebich (6-2) took the loss, allowing the winning run, two hits and one walk in 1/3 inning.
Â
In the second game, Bailee Schies (1-0), tossing her first game of the year, allowed one hit and two walks in the complete game win.
