CHESTER, Pa. – Junior
Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck/Anne Arundel C.C.) notched her eighth hat trick of the season to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team on Saturday, April 11, but Widener University used a six-goal run at the end of the first half to post a 12-5 Commonwealth Conference win at Edith R. Dixon Field.
Widener (6-5 overall, 3-1 Commonwealth) got on the board just 30 seconds into the game, but the Warriors (7-4 overall, 0-4 Commonwealth) responded with Jackson's first goal on an assist from junior
Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) with 27:47 left. After another Widener goal, freshman
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) responded with a score with 24:49 left to tie the game at two.
A goal from Meghan Garvey with 20:49 left helped Widener start a six-goal run that gave it an 8-2 lead at the break. The Warriors scored two of the first three goals in the second half, with Jackson's second goal with 25:09 left making it 9-4, but the Pride responded with three straight goals before Jackson's last goal with 11:46 left rounded out the scoring.
Jackson finished with three goals, giving her 48 on the season, as she also posted two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Maguire notched a goal and Fox added an assist.
Kelsey Powell led the Pride with three goals and two assists and Jamie Hills added three goals and an assist. Garvey notched two goals and an assist, Kelley Dreher notched four caused turnovers and Megan Capobianco added two caused turnovers.
Sophomore
Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) (7-4) notched 12 saves for the Warriors. Megan Dunn (6-5) stopped 11 shots and added six ground balls to earn the win for the Pride.
The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, April 15, when they head to Hood for a 4 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
