ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – A run of 11 straight goals that spanned the first and second halves helped the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team come-from-behind to defeat Elizabethtown College, 16-9, in non-conference action at Wolf Field on Monday afternoon, March 9.
Â
The Warriors (3-0 overall) ended up overcoming a three-goal first-half deficit en route to their first win over the Blue Jays (2-1 overall) in nine meetings, a run dating back to a 14-13 loss in 2007.
Â
Junior
Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) once again led the squad, scoring five goals and adding two assists, while also picking up eight ground balls and eight caused turnovers and freshman
Jenna Hudson (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) contributed her second straight hat trick with three goals.
Â
Down by two goals at halftime, the Warriors scored 10 straight goals in the second half, starting just 34 seconds into the half when Jackson found the back of the net. Cox found senior
Erin Cieniewicz (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) for a score to tie the game with 25:31 left and less than a minute later, Jackson found junior
Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) for a score to give Lycoming a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Off the next draw control, freshman
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) scored on a breakaway and then she assisted on a pair of goals to Hudson to key the run.
Â
Elizabethtown ended the Lycoming run by scoring with 2:25 left, but it was not enough to get back into the game. The Warriors put together a great defensive effort in the second half, as sophomore goalkeeper
Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) stopped seven shots in the period.
Â
Lycoming jumped out to a 2-0 lead, as Hudson and Jackson each scored in the first five minutes. However, Elizabethtown fought back with a run of five straight goals in the next eight minutes before junior
Kelsey Harshman (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert) ended the run with 16:57 to go with a free-position goal.
Â
The Blue Jays scored two of the next three goals, as well, to take a 7-4 lead with 7:24 left in the first half, but the Warriors closed within two goals at the break, as junior
Katie Cox (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) found Jackson for a goal with 2:03 left.
Â
