Jackson, Maguire help Warriors soar past Elmira, 18-11

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) scored seven goals and senior Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) added three goals and three assists to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team, as it used a big half-spanning run to post an 18-11 win over Elmira College in non-conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Conference on Friday, March 6.

Jackson posted four goals in the first half before chipping in three more in the second half. She also added her first career assist, as she also grabbed five ground balls and a caused turnover. Maguire posted three goals and three assists, adding three caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Freshman Jenna Hudson (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) scored three goals for her first career hat trick and freshman Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) also added two goals and an assist. She also posted nine draw controls and six ground balls. Junior Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) also scored twice.

Lycoming (2-0 overall)  fell behind, 2-0, as Elmira's Moorea Spoljaric took two draw controls in for quick goals, but, when Lycoming earned the next draw, it began to control play, scoring four unanswered goals, starting with a free-position goal from Lazarich.

Spoljaric answered back with a pair of goals to tie it at four with 17:25 left, but a goal by Fox less than 30 seconds later started a 9-2 run that occupied the next 23 minutes, with Jackson's fifth goal of the game giving Lycoming a 13-6 lead with 24:22 left in the second half.

Elmira (0-1 overall) closed within five goals twice more after that, but the Warriors responded with goals from Jackson each time to stop the runs.

Lycoming, which lost to Elmira, 11-9, in 2014, took 45 shots while holding Elmira to just 17. Lycoming also picked up 42 ground balls, while Elmira posted just 21, and the Warriors won 18 of 31 draw controls. They also played well in defensive transition, allowing the Soaring Eagles just 10-of-23 clears.

Junior Kelsey Harshman (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert) picked up six ground balls and a caused turnover and junior Erica Spero (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) also picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover.
