WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior
Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) posted three goals and a career-high six assists and freshman
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) added three goals and five assists to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team as it scored a season-high 21 goals in a 21-9 win over King's College in non-conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon, March 18.
Maguire's six helpers are tied for the third-most in program history and the most since Megan McIntyre notched six against Wilkes in 2009, while Lazarich's five assists are tied for eighth in program history. Maguire also became the fifth player in school history to reach 50 career assists in the game, finishing with 54.
Junior
Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) scored five goals for the Warriors, who improved to 6-0 overall as the team has posted its most wins since 2010 when the team won 10 games. Junior
Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) added four goals, two assists, five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Freshmen
Jenna Hudson (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) and
Caroline Mitchell (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) each added two goals.
After King's (2-3 overall) opened the game with a goal from Anastasia Araviakis, the Warriors responded with a 7-1 run that occupied much of the first 15 minutes of the half, with Maguire pacing the run with two goals and four assists.
King's cut the lead to three at 7-4 with 9:50 left, but Maguire found Lazarich for a cutting goal just 45 second later and Lycoming went on a run of four straight goals to take an 11-4 lead before a goal at the first-half buzzer by Gabriella Morrocu helped King's cut the lead to six at the break.
King's continued to pressure, scoring the first two goals of the second half to make it 11-7, but a goal by Jackson on a dish from Maguire with 24:13 left started a 9-1 run that gave Lycoming a 20-8 lead with 2:05 left after a pair of goals from Fox. Both teams scored in the final minute to round out the scoring.
The Warriors fired 35 shots in the game while holding the Monarchs to 19 and Lycoming held a 24-7 lead in draw controls, helping the team keep possession throughout the game.
Senior
Erin Cieniewicz (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) finished with four ground balls and nine draw controls and Lazarich posted six draw controls. Senior
Liz Francescone (Cream Ridge, N.J./Notre Dame) and sophomore
Elizabeth VanHorn (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) each caused two turnovers.
Morrocu and Araviakis each scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Monatchs. Araviakis posted five ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls and Morrocu added four ground balls. Kendra McCoy, Sarah Almony and Nina Sjostrom each notched a goal and an assist.
In net, sophomore
Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) stopped seven shots to earn her sixth win of the season. Victoria Zawacki also made seven stops in the loss for King's.
The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, March 25, when they travel to Misericordia at 7 p.m. for their final non-conference tune-up before Commonwealth Conference play begins.
