Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors fall to Lions

READING, Pa. – Senior Malcolm Covington (Springfield Gardens, N.Y./Blessed Sacrament) led the Lycoming College men's basketball team with 13 points and two assists, but a second-half rally helped Albright College snap Lycoming's five-game winning streak in a 71-55 Commonwealth Conference decision at Lamade Gym, on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Bollman Center.

Covington crossed 1,000 points in his collegiate career in the game, as he hit a pair of free throws in the first half to reach the mark. He finished the game with 1,011 after scoring 647 in two years at SUNY Orange and 364 in his two years at Lycoming.

Freshman Alex Newbold (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) added nine points and four rebounds and senior Patrick Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) added eight points for the Warriors (15-7 overall, 10-3 Commonwealth). Both freshman Issak Bodon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and sophomore Nykolas King (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science & Math) each added six points.

The Warriors kept a half-game lead on first-place in the league, with Stevenson (16-5 overall, 9-3 Commonwealth) winning in overtime at Messiah.

Covington kicked off the second half by swishing through a 16-footer with 19:47 on the clock, but that was the final lead of the game for the Warriors, as Albright (9-11 overall, 5-7 Commonwealth) went on a 13-5 run to take a 35-28 lead with 13:57 left. The Warriors cut the lead to four on a pair of free throws by freshman Chris Wallace (Randallstown, Md./Calvert Hall), but back-to-back 3-pointers by Albright put the lead into double figures and the Warriors couldn't get back within nine points the rest of the way.

In the first half, the Warriors took a 6-3 lead through the first four minutes before layups from Dougher and Wallace gave Lycoming the lead with 13:55 left. After trading leads, Albright went on a run of six straight points to take a 15-10 lead midway through the half and expanded the lead to as many as seven before the Warriors responded with eight straight points to take a 21-19 lead after a 3-pointer by junior Eric Ishman (Bronx, N.Y./Christ the King) with 48 seconds left. However, Evan Ward hit a trey as time expired to help Albright into the locker room with a one-point advantage.

Ward led the Lions with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Omari Ringgold added 15 points and two steals. DeJuan Smith also posted 14 points and E Dunn notched 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Warriors were outrebounded, 46-32, but held a 16-12 advantage in turnovers, which led to 25 points. Albright hit six 3-pointers and finished 44 percent (24-of-54) from the field while Lycoming hit just 36 percent (20-of-56).

The Warriors get back on the court with another Commonwealth Conference doubleheader against Arcadia at Lamade Gym on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The women tip at 6 p.m. before the men play at 8 p.m.
