WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A run of 22 straight points early in the second half helped the Lycoming College men's basketball team overcome a slow start against Penn College on Sunday, Dec. 13, as Lycoming used the run to propel itself to a 90-72 non-conference win at Lamade Gym.
 
Fourteen of the team's 16 players found the scoreboard and junior 
David Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech), freshman 
Calvin Chandler (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) and sophomore 
Roger Wilson (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) finished in double figures, with Johnson and Chandler posting 13 points and Wilson adding 10.
 
The Warriors (7-2 overall) dominated the paint once again, grabbing 21 offensive rebounds while allowing just nine, which led to a 48-20 advantage in the paint and 20 second-chance points. The Warriors also forced 26 turnovers, which led to 31 points off turnover.
 
Penn College (2-6 overall) cut Lycoming's lead to three points early in the second half after a free throw from former Warrior Kevin Laurence-El, but Lycoming began to respond after a first-half in which it allowed the Wildcats to shoot 41 percent from the field. Junior 
Nykolas King (Harlem, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science & Math) started the run with a layup on a dish from sophomore 
Alex Newbold (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) before Johnson converted a traditional 3-point play. The Warriors kept the run going, holding the Wildcats scoreless for seven minutes to take a 59-34 lead with 12:44 left.
 
In the final minutes, Lycoming got the lead to as many as 29 before Penn College closed the game on a 25-14 run in the final 6:48 to make up the final margin.
 
Lycoming stormed back from an early eight-point deficit, taking its first lead of the game thanks to a 12-2 run that was capped on a backdoor layup by junior 
Willie Kee (Baltimore, Md./Parkland) to make it 12-10 with 14:10 remaining in the half. From there, the teams fought through five ties and three lead changes before Lycoming began a run of eight straight points to take a 35-27 lead with 3:09 left in the half after a jumper in the paint by Johnson.
 
Penn College closed back within two points late in the half with six points, but a layup inside by Wilson helped Lycoming take a 37-33 lead into the break.
 
Johnson posted 13 points to go with a career-high five assists and Chandler added 13 points and two 3-pointers. Wilson posted a career-high 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore 
Chris Wallace (Randallstown, Md./Calvert Hall) added nine points and two blocks and senior 
Eric Ishman (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) added eight points and two steals.
 
Marquis Delgado led the Wildcats with 19 points, six steals and five assists and Laurence-El added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Williamsport Area alum Thomas Ross also added 12 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Warriors get back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 29, when they host Washington College (Md.) at 6 p.m. in the opening round of the Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament.
