Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors fall to hot-shooting Crusaders

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men's basketball team scored 60 points in the second half and shot 52 percent from the field in the period, but every time Lycoming drew within 10 points of Susquehanna University, it seems Susquehanna found an answer in a 97-86 non-conference win at Lamade Gym on Monday night, Nov. 23.

Susquehanna (4-0 overall) shot 60 percent (35-of-58) from the field in the game, negating an aggressive Lycoming attack that shot 42 percent (34-of-81) and took 23 more shots from the field. The Warriors (3-1 overall) forced six more turnovers and scored six more points off turnovers (18-12), but the Crusaders drew 10 more fouls and shot 11 more free throws, helping to nearly account for the final margin.

Junior Nykolas King (Harlem, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science & Math) led the Warriors with 18 points and nine rebounds and junior David Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) added 13 points and eight rebounds. Freshman T.J. Duckett (Severna Park, Md./Calvert Hall) posted 11 points, hitting two 3-pointers, and sophomore Alex Newbold (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) added eight points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Both senior Eric Ishman (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) and freshman Calvin Chandler (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) each added eight points.

Lycoming came out running and then shooting in the second half, hitting two layups before two 3-pointers, with Ishman hitting the second with 17:03 left to make it 44-36. Susquehanna answered, though, as Josh Miller hit a traditional 3-point play before Brandon Hedley hit his first 3-pointer to make it 50-36.

Lycoming challenged again with 12:27 left, after back-to-back 3-pointers from Duckett and Chandler made it 56-49. Susquehanna again answered with five straight points and kept the lead at nine points or better until the 5:39 mark when the Crusaders went on a 13-2 run to make it 88-68 with 3:39 left.

The Warriors responded with a 16-6 run to cut the lead back to 10 with 1:11 left, but couldn't get any closer.

The Crusaders jumped out to an 18-6 lead with 12:37 left in the first half and got the lead to as many as 16 points at 27-11 with seven minutes remaining. The Warriors fought back, closing the half on a 15-9 run, with Newbold leading the run with seven points.

Sophomore Chris Wallace (Randallstown, Md./Calvert Hall) posted seven points, three rebounds and two blocks and freshman Nick Meek (Twinsburg, Ohio/Benedictine) added a career-high seven points.

Josh Miller led the Crusaders with 27 points and 10 rebounds and Steven Weidlich posted 19 points and 12 rebounds. Dan Weiss posted 18 points and seven rebounds and Hedley notched 15 points, four rebounds and three assists. Tyler Hoagland also notched 11 points and four assists.

The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Dec. 2, when they host Alvernia University in their MAC Commonwealth opener at 8 p.m.
