Warriors sweep MAC Crossovers

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – For the fourth time in five years, the Lycoming College volleyball team swept its opponents during the Middle Atlantic Conference Crossovers, downing Wilkes, 3-1, and Misericordia, 3-2, during the morning portion of the event held at the Marts Center on Saturday, Oct. 3.
 
Lycoming (14-6 overall) posted its third win of the season against Wilkes (10-10 overall) in the morning matchup, 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-22, 25-12), with junior Maggie Slawson (Armagh, Pa./United) leading the way with 13 kills, 21 digs and two blocks and junior Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) posting 12 kills, eight digs and a block.
 
Freshman Cheyenne Altland (East Berlin, Pa./DeLone Catholic) added seven kills and a block and senior Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) added six kills, five aces, five digs and a block. Sophomore Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) posted 37 assists, five digs and two blocks and freshman Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) added a team-best 25 digs.
 
In a tight second match, the Warriors outlasted Misericordia (7-13 overall), posting a 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 19-25, 16-14) win.
 
Altland finished with 11 kills along with junior Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York), who also added 23 digs. Richardson notched nine kills, five digs and three blocks and Slawson posted nine kills, 11 digs and four aces. Burger finished with 34 aces and 16 digs and Hepner notched a career-high 32 digs for the Warriors.
 
The Warriors get back into action on Wednesday, Oct. 7, when they host MAC Commonwealth foe Messiah College at 7 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
