WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore
Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) became the first Lycoming College men's soccer player in seven years to post a hat trick, as Lycoming knocked off Albright College, 4-0, in both teams' MAC Commonwealth openers on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
Logan's hat trick came with two headers in the 27
th and 65
th minute and a laser of a shot in the 28
th minute, as he became the first Warrior since Chris Burgess to score three times in a game. Burgess posted his hat trick in a 4-0 win over Keystone on Sept. 20, 2008.
The Warriors (8-1-1 overall, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) dominated the Lions (1-8-1 overall, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) en route to the team's fourth straight win over the Albright in Williamsport, holding a 24-3 advantage in shots and an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Warriors struck quick midway through the first half to take control of the game, as Logan delivered two scoring strikes. His first came off a restart after a yellow card, with sophomore
Mateo Velasquez (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) delivering a 30-yard liner to the right post, where Logan headed it in. Just over a minute later, Logan struck again, getting a give inside the goalbox from sophomore
Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) and finding the center of the net.
Logan struck once more in the second half, scoring again on a header off a free kick. Junior goalkeeper
Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) delivered the free kick from midfield into the box, where sophomore
Kyle Thomas (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) flicked it to Logan, who headed it over the keeper into the net.
Freshman
Sainclair Tueno (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) delivered the final strick in the 86
th minute, controlling a corner kick scrum before turning around and finding the left corner from 12 yards out.
Gildea was forced to make one save while earning the shutout. Albright's Austin Aldinger stopped seven shots.
The Warriors get back on the field on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when they head to Stevenson for a 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match.
