ANNVILLE, Pa. – A rapid-fire comeback that included three second-half goals and 18 shots fell short for the Lycoming College women's soccer team in a critical MAC Commonwealth matchup with Lebanon Valley College, falling 8-4, at Herbert Field on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
Sophomore
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) led the Warriors (8-8 overall, 1-4 MAC Commonwealth), posting her second straight two-goal game and adding an assist. Junior
Shayna Iacoviello (Old Bridge, N.J./St. John Vianney) also added a goal and an assist.
Lazarich has posted 13 goals this season, which is fifth in school history, and she joined senior
Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck), as two of the five players in school history with 30 points in a season. Jackson is currently third with 33 points (14 goals, five assists) and Lazarich is fourth at 31 (13 goals, five assists). Jackson is five points from the school record of 38 set by Danielle Curry in 2004 (15 goals, eight assists).
Down 7-1 late in the second half, the Warriors began their comeback, with Lazarich firing a shot in that rebounded out, where junior
K.C. Magee (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) knocked the rebound in. Just over a minute later, Iacoviello fired in a rebounded shot to make it 7-3, in the 77
th minute.
The Flying Dutchmen (11-4 overall, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth) tapped in a goal in the 79
th minute, but the Warriors continued to pressure, finding the net in the 86
th minute when Iacoviello found Lazarich, who beat the goalie and fired it in for her 13
th goal of the season.
In the first half, Lebanon Valley scored four goals in the first half before Lycoming got on the board with a one-on-one goal by Lazarich off a lead pass from Jackson. The Dutchmen scored three more goals after that, though, to take a 7-1 lead in the 65
th minute, as Sammy Bost's fourth goal also made her the Dutchmen's career points leader with 105.
Bost led the Dutchmen with four goals and an assist and Teanna Shutt posted a goal and two assists.
Freshman
Helen Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) stopped four shots in net for the Warriors. Taylor Reinhold made three first half saves for the Dutchmen and Erin Angelini, who saw 18 shots in the second half, stopped four.
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 24, when they host Hood College in a MAC Commonwealth contest. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. Before the game, the team will honor its six seniors – Jackson,
