WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman goalkeeper
Helen Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) made six saves in the second half to lead the Lycoming College women's soccer team, including one on a penalty kick, but five first-half goals were enough to help second-ranked Messiah College post a 6-0 win on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
Â
Ross played well in the second half, allowing just one breakaway goal, while making many standout saves, posting one off a penalty kick in the 81
st minute, diving to her left and then moments later coming out of the box to dive in front of a shot from a Messiah player on a breakway.
Â
In the first half, however, Kyele Bridel scored twice to lead the Falcons (11-0-2 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth), who took 13 shots and found the net five times in the half. Nikki Elsaesser posted a goal and an assist in the period and rounded out the scoring with a breakaway score in the 51
st minute.
Â
Lycoming was able to take two shots in the game, with one great look heading just over the crossbar off the foot of senior
Katie Cox (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill/Anne Arundel C.C.) early in the second half.
Â
Audra Larson and Sara Yunez combined on the shutout and Lilly Shover added two assists.
Â
Sophomore
Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) stopped four shots in the first half before yielding to Ross for the second half.
Â
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 13, when they head to Alvernia for a 3 p.m. MAC Commonwealth matchup.
