WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Freshman Shelby Mueller (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team, but a hot-shooting Widener University was able to overpower Lycoming, 68-46, in Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 3.

Mueller hit 7-of-11 from the field and added four rebounds and two steals to lead the Warriors (9-3 overall, 2-2 Commonwealth), who shot a season-low 26 percent (18-of-69) from the field. Senior Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) added nine points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals and junior Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) posted six points, four rebounds and two steals. Both sophomore Nicole Calella (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) and junior Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) added five points.

The teams went back-and-forth through the first eight minutes, working through five ties and five lead changes before Widener (7-6 overall, 1-3 Commonwealth) used a 12-0 run that lasted nearly five minutes to build a 26-14 lead with 7:44 left after a fastbreak bucket by Julia Venturelli. The Warriors cut the lead down to eight points with 5:16 left at 28-20 after a fastbreak layup by Calella to cap a 6-2 run, but Widener finished the half with its own 7-3 run to push the lead back to 35-23 at the break.

In the first three minutes of the second half, Widener pushed the lead to 20 points, with Kristina Reiter hitting a pair of 3-pointers to force a timeout. Widener continued the run, though, expanding the lead to as many as 31 after a layup by Courtney Colella with 7:19 left. The Warriors ended the game on an 11-2 run to make up the final margin.

Ally Ferrucci led the Pride with 16 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and two steals. Kristina Reiter posted 14 points, four 3-pointers and five rebounds and Brianna Wylie notched 12 points and 11 rebounds. Colella notched seven points and 13 boards and Allison Gallagher used four fastbreak layups to finish with 11 points and five rebounds. The Pride shot 49 percent from the field (24-of-49) and held a 54-26 advantage rebounding.

The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Jan. 7, when they host Albright in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader, with the women tipping off at 6 p.m. before the men at 8 p.m.
