WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Junior
Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) hit a game-winning jumper with 5.5 seconds left to help the Lycoming College women's basketball team cap a run of five straight points in the game's final 82 seconds to upend King's College, 59-57, in non-conference action on Monday night, Jan. 19.
Down 57-54 after a layup by King's Marissa Manning with 1:31 left, the Warriors rebounded when Manges found freshman
Haley Sipple (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) for her first career 3-pointer to tie the game with 1:21 left.
The Warriors (11-6 overall) got the ball back after a missed layup, but a Warrior turnover brought the clock under a minute. Another missed King's layup gave Lycoming the ball back with 27 seconds left and Sipple grabbed the rebound. After crossing midcourt, the Warriors called timeout to set up the last play, where Manges calmly drilled the game-winner with 5.5 seconds left. A last-second 3-pointer by King's was pulled down by Manges, securing the first win over the Monarchs (5-10 overall) since 2009.
Taking a one-point lead into the break, the Warriors continued to roll in the second half, scoring the first nine points of the second half and 17 of the first 22 to take a 42-31 lead with 13:24 left after a layup by junior
Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers). The run was spurred by four points from senior
Ali Derr (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) and Sipple.
The Monarchs responded with 10 straight points, closing within 42-41 after a free throw by Tara Zdanecewicz with 8:06 left. The Warriors stopped the run when Sipple hit a jumper, but King's was able to tie the game on a jumper by Manning with 4:23 left. After a Warrior miss, Kasey Seitz hit a 3-pointer with 3:53 left to give King's a 53-50 lead.
After each team traded free throws, Derr hit a jumper with 2:07 left to close within 55-54, but Manning responded with her own layup on King's next possession to set up the Warriors' final rally.
After three lead changes and two ties in the game's first seven minutes, King's went on a run of six straight points, taking a 13-7 lead off a 3-pointer from Kayla Feairheller with 11:19 left in the opening half. From there, King's kept the lead until late in the half, when Lycoming finished the half with an 8-3 run over the last 4:48 to take the lead with 27 seconds left on a jumper by Sipple, helping the Warriors take a 27-26 lead into the break.
Derr led the Warriors, finishing 8-of-13 from the floor, finishing with 16 points and six rebounds and Henderson added 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Sipple posted a career-high 11 points and four rebounds, as she shot 5-of-7 from the field.

Shelby Mueller (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) posted seven points and two blocks, senior
Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) notched six points, a career-high 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals and Manges posted six points, a career-high eight rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Feairheller posted 14 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead King's and Manning added 12 points and four rebounds. Seitz notched 11 points, three 3-pointers and three steals and Jennifer Fabian added 10 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Lycoming finished shooting 39 percent (24-of-61) from the field and holding a 49-37 advantage on the glass. King's shot 31 percent (19-of-61) from the field, including just 25 percent (7-of-28) from 3-point range.
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Jan. 24, when they host Alvernia at 1 p.m. to start a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader before the men tip at 3 p.m.
