Warriors score twice but fall at Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Lycoming College women's soccer team scored twice on Sunday, Sept. 7, but a five-goal first half by Pitt-Bradford was able to lift it to a 7-2 non-conference win at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
 
The Panthers (3-0 overall), who have reached back-to-back Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference finals, were led by Melissa Smith in the first half, as she posted a goal and an assist in the first 45 minutes. In the second half, Lycoming (0-4 overall) began to cut into the lead, with sophomore Olivia Mendler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) sending a cross into the box for freshman Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park), who finished off her first career goal.
 
In the 67th minute, junior Kaitlyn Gulotta (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) connected for her first goal of the year, as she scored on a penalty kick, helping her reach 15 points in her career, and close within 5-2.
 
Pitt-Bradford, however, closed out the game with two goals in the 75th minute. Smith added her second assist on the last goal, as she was the lone player that factored into multiple goals in the game.
 
Freshman Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) made a season-high 12 saves in net for the Warriors, as the Panthers fired 35 shots in the game. Sarah Dailey earned the win in net for the Panthers, playing the first half, before Brooke Redfern made two saves in the final 45.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when they head to Mount Aloysius for a 4:30 p.m. match, ending the team's season-opening five-game road trek. The Warriors will open its home slate on Sunday, Sept. 14, when the team hosts Westminster at 3 p.m.
