Warriors notch eighth shutout with 5-0 win over Soaring Eagles

Box Score ELMIRA, N.Y. – A season-high five different players found the back of the net and the Lycoming College men's soccer team notched its eighth shutout of the season in a 5-0 rout of Elmira College in non-conference action at the Campus Field on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
 
The Warriors (7-0-2 overall) tied the school record with the 1992 team that notched an 8-0-1 start for the longest start to a season without a loss.
 
Senior Kevin Seymour (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) got the offense started in the 27th minute when he got a pass from senior Adam Kuntz (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and sent a shot past the keeper. Just five minutes later, sophomore Alfonce Mutuku (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic) scored his first goal of the season on a dish from senior Bill Kerr (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic).
 
In the second half, freshman Duc Momo (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), sophomore Jason Coles (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and freshman Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) each found the back of the net.
 
Mutuku led the Warriors with a goal and an assist as Lycoming notched a season-high 34 shots, including a forcing 22 shots on net. The team was aggressive throughout the game, forcing eight corner kicks and the team was called offsides 10 times.
 
Elmira (0-6-1 overall) was led by Austin Mansell, who stopped six shots in the first half, before Jordan Dougherty made 11 stops in the second half.
 
Senior Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) stopped one shot in the first half for the Warriors before yielding to sophomore Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh), who notched two saves in the second half.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they host 15th-ranked Rochester at 3:30 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
