Lycoming survives late rally at Susquehanna to retain Boot

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Three Lycoming College men's soccer players scored in the first 60 minutes of the game, creating more than enough offense for the team, as it posted a 3-2 win over Susquehanna University in the Battle for the Boot on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Sassafras Field.

Lycoming (7-9, 3-5) defeated Susquehanna (2-10-4, 0-5-3) for the fourth consecutive season and has now retained the traveling Boot trophy since 2015, having gone unbeaten in their last 11 tilts in the rivalry game.

The Warriors wasted no time, as first year Dylan Siegel (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg Area) scored off a cross from senior Aidan Stillman (Silver Spring, Md. / Albert Einstein) in the second minute. Less than five minutes later, it was Stillman's turn, scoring low on the left side off a Leandro Cruz (Nottingham, Md. / Loyola Blakefield) feed to give Lycoming a quick 2-0 lead that held into halftime.

Lycoming pushed the lead to three in the 60th minute, as junior Jake Keeney (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) scored off an assist from first year David Delcid (Brentwood, N.Y. / Brentwood) in a return to his hometown.

Seigel notched his third score of the season, while Keeney added his second tally, and Stillman picking up his first goal and second assist of the campaign. Cruz earned his fourth assist and Delcid his second. Sophomore Ben Polito (Rockaway, N.J. / Morris Knolls) earned his first career win in goal, making seven saves.

Susquehanna pushed hard late, with Zak Kreisher scoring in the 66th minute and Jack McCarthy scoring in the 88th minute. Owen Kaar assisted on the first score and keeper Finn Kramer made eight saves for the River Hawks.

The Warriors will finish the regular season with a Landmark Conference matchup at Wilkes on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The match will begin at 7 p.m. from Bruggesworth Field in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
