Box Score BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Although the Lycoming College men's soccer team's reign as the last team in the NCAA Division III to allow a goal lasted just a little more than 24 hours when Geneva College finally ended the streak with a late-first half goal, Lycoming was quick to start a new shutout streak, holding Geneva scoreless for the last 68 minutes en route to a 1-1 non-conference tie at the Merriman Soccer Complex on Saturday night, Sept. 20.
Â
The Warriors (6-0-2 overall) saw an end to their school-record run of seven straight shutouts, as the Golden Tornadoes (5-1-2 overall) were the first team this year to find the back of the net. In all, Lycoming held opponents scoreless for a school record 692 minutes, nearly 150 more than the previous best mark of 548 set in 2013. The team was the last in Division III to allow a goal, as Texas-Tyler allowed one in a 2-1 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday night, Sept. 19.
Â
Lycoming got on the board quickly, scoring just 37 seconds into the game, as freshman
Duc Momo (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) delivered a cross from the right corner of the field and sophomore
Dom Haynes (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) ran under it and connected with a bullet into the right corner of the net.
Â
The goal was the quickest for the Warriors since Pat Marion '13 scored 14 seconds into a 1-0 win over Juniata on Sept. 21, 2011.
Â
Geneva (5-1-2 overall) answered, however, in an evenly matched half in which both teams had five shots, in the 42
nd minute, when Clayton Cox scored on a cross from the right corner from Brandon Crider. After that, though, the Warriors' defense again tightened, allowing just two more shots the rest of the game, while the offense peppered Geneva with 12 shots, but none could dent the twine.
Â
Senior goalkeeper
Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) made two stops in the complete game effort for the Warriors, facing just seven shots, and Bryan Butler stopped five shots for the Tornadoes, as Lycoming totaled 17.
Â
The Warriors get back on the field on Tuesday, Sept. 23, when they head to Elmira for a 4 p.m. start.
