WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) scored his first two career goals to lead the Lycoming College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Penn College in the Battle for the Lumber at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

In the process, the Warriors (4-0-1 overall) tied the school record for consecutive shutouts of five set during the 2013 season. The team also extended its stretch of consecutive scoreless minutes to 470, just 78 minutes shy of the school record of 548, also set during the 2013 season.

Lycoming's defense again held firm throughout the game, giving the Wildcats (2-3 overall) very few scoring chances. Penn College's lone shot on goal came in the 75th minute with a quick flip to the right corner that senior goalkeeper Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) easily scooped up. Keenan now has 14 career shutouts, the third-best mark in school history and three shy of the school record of 17 held by David Kidd (1991-94) and Jason Fesler (2001-04).

Abdi, an all-state selection in Washington, got the Warriors on the board in the 19th minute, as Lycoming got the ball deep in the zone. As a defender closed in on freshman Keenthy Yeboah (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair), he dished it quickly to his left for Abdi, who fired a shot into the lower right netting, giving Lycoming the 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Abdi struck again on a penalty kick in the 60th minute after he was tackled in the goal box.

Penn College keeper Hector Guerrero made five saves to lead the Wildcats and Taylor Fegley led the team with two of its four shots.

Lycoming posted 20 shots and 10 corner kicks, as it held possession throughout much of the game.

The Warriors get back in action on Sunday, Sept. 14, when they host Westminster in a 1 p.m. non-conference match at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
