Warriors edged by Hawks late

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Junior Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) tied the game for the Lycoming College women's soccer team in the 83rd minute on a penalty kick, but Hartwick College was able to score twice in the waning minutes to take a 4-2 decision from the Warriors in the final game of the Erinn K. Brozman Cup on a rainy Sunday afternoon, Aug. 31, at Elmore Field.
 
The Warriors (0-2 overall) jumped out to an early lead for the second game in a row, with Jackson delivering a pass to sophomore Olivia Mendler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) in the seventh minute. Mendler chipped a shot over the keeper.
 
The Hawks (2-0 overall) came back with two goals in the half, though. Maddy Paul got the team on the board in the 40th minute and just three minutes later, Allyson Daniels found the back of the net.
 
The Warriors waited for their chance in the second half, though, and Jackson delivered with just 7:20 left in the game, scoring on the free chance for her first score at the collegiate level in two years.
 
The Hawks, though, tallied the game-winner less than 30 seconds later, as Casey Boucher found the back of the net. Allyson Daniels added one more score in the 88th minute.
 
Jackson led the Warriors with a goal and an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) finished with five saves in net.
 
Daniels led the Hawks with two goals and Kyle Thayer added two assists. Paul notched a goal and assist. Alley Maurer took credit for the win, making two saves in the first half for the Hawks. Annie Millar made one stop in the second.
 
The Warriors head to Susquehanna University for the River Derby on Tuesday, Sept. 2, for a 7 p.m. game at the Sassafras Fields.
