NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – A two-run rally in the sixth inning of the nightcap helped the Lycoming College softball team post a 4-3 win over York (Pa.) on its third day of play at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic, as the squad notched a split after an 18-3 loss to Ferrum in the morning game at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex on Wednesday, March 5.

Down by a run in the top of the sixth inning, the Warriors (4-2 overall) rallied against York (4-6 overall), as sophomore
Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) reached by getting hit with one out in the inning. She moved to second after sophomore
Shawna Risley (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) singled to left. After a lineout, an error loaded the bases and an outfield error helped score both runs.

In the next two innings, Weaver (2-1) allowed just one runner to reach base, a two-out double by Natalie Fritz in the sixth. She settled down, though to get a ground out before a 1-2-3 seventh, helping her complete a six-hitter in which she allowed three runs, walked one and struck out one.

The Warriors took the lead in the second inning, as sophomore
Ashley Witmer (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) started the inning with a single to right before Weaver double to left to score Witmer. Witmer came around to score again in the fourth, as she doubled to left with one out and scored on a two-out error.

Sophomore
Elisa Novak (Ambler, Pa./Germantown Academy) finished 2-of-4, along with Witmer, who also added two runs. Weaver went 1-for-2 with a run and RBI.

Fritz went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI and Mackenzie Ewell also went 2-for-3.

Jennifer Taff (2-3) took the loss for the Spartans, allowing six hits and an earned run in the complete game. She struck out three.

Junior
Kali Moeller (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) led the Warriors against Ferrum, going 2-for-2 with two RBI, but Ferrum scored in all five innings en route to an 18-3 win.

Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) also went 2-for-3 and junior
Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) notched a second-inning RBI double and freshman
Morgan Kunes (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) hit a fourth-inning double before coming around to score on a single by Moeller.

Witmer scored on an RBI single by Moeller in the fifth inning.

Alyana Lew finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, a triple and three runs and Alicia Eichenlaub went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI to lead the Panthers (6-4 overall). Karly Thompson went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI and Chloe Brzycki added a 3-for-4 game with two runs and a homer.

Lew (2-1) earned the win in relief, allowing six hits and two runs in the last three innings. She struck out two. Lapano (2-1) took the loss for the Warriors, allowing six earned runs and eight hits in three innings.

The Warriors get back on the diamond on Thursday, March 6, to wrap up their time at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex by facing Mount Union at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
