WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women's lacrosse team drew within a goal three times in the second half, but could not complete the comeback and Alvernia University scored three of the last four goals to hang on for a 13-10 Commonwealth Conference win on Saturday, March 29, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

In a back and forth game, the Warriors (4-6 overall, 0-2 Commonwealth) took a 4-3 lead with three straight goals through the middle portion of the first half, but Alvernia scored three goals in a 66-second span late in the half to take a 6-4 lead, which they never relinquished in the second half.

However, the Warriors stayed close throughout the second 30 minutes, drawing within 6-5 on a free-position goal from senior
Maureen Heagy (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby), 7-6 on a free-position goal from junior
Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township), 8-7 on an unassisted beauty into the upper left netting by sophomore
Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) and 10-9 with 11:04 left on a free position goal from Fox.

Alvernia answered back quickly, scoring with 9:29 left and with 8:19 on the clock. The Warriors closed within two on an unassisted score from freshman
Leanne Shaw (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) with 6:46 left, but the only other score before time expired came from Alvernia to round out the three-goal margin.

Fox led the Warriors with three goals and an assist and Heagy also added a hat trick with three goals and three ground balls. Magure also notched two goals. Junior
Erin Cieniewicz (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) posted seven ground balls and a caused turnover and junior
Liz Francescone (Cream Ridge, N.J./Notre Dame) forced three turnovers and added three ground balls. Junior
Alysha Conley (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) also added three ground balls and three draw controls.

Alvernia was led by eight goals from Brooke Campione. Jacquelyn Strange added two goals, Nora Walsh posted two assists and Julie Sutton posted a goal and an assist. Walsh led the Crusaders with five ground balls and three draw controls and Knight posted four ground balls and three draw controls.

In net, freshman goalkeeper
Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) (4-6) performed admirably in net, stopping 18 shots, 10 in the second half, as Alvernia fired 40 shots. Colleen Reilly (6-3) earned the win for the Crusaders, making seven stops off Lycoming's 26 shots.

The Warriors get back in action Wednesday, April 2, when they head to Messiah for a 4 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
