Juniors combine to turn over Cougars, 65-54

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Juniors Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) and Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) combined for 32 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals to help lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team past Misericordia University, 65-54, on Tuesday night, Nov. 25, in non-conference action at Lamade Gym.

Henderson hit her first eight shots from the field, helping the Warriors (4-1 overall) rally after the Cougars (0-5 overall) tied the game at 29 early in the second half. Manges scored 12 of her season-best 16 points in the first half, helping the team rally after the Cougars had closed within five points.

With the score tied at 29, the Warriors scored six straight points, with freshman Shelby Mueller (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) notching two layups to help the team take a 35-29 lead. The Cougars cut the lead down to three points three times and two points once, but a jumper from senior Ali Derr (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) gave the Warriors a 43-38 lead with 11:10 remaining and starting a 16-6 run that gave the team a 57-44 lead with 4:57 left.

The Cougars couldn't get closer than eight points the rest of the way.

The Warrior defense clamped down early, taking a 6-0 lead before allowing the Cougars to take a shot from the field, continuing that run through the first eight minutes, posting a 14-4 lead eight minutes into the game by forcing nine turnovers in that span.

The Cougars cut the lead down to five points at 21-16 with 6:01 left, but the Warriors responded thanks to the hot-shooting of Manges, who hit a jumper before canning two 3-pointers to make it 29-16 with 2:36 left. The Cougars, however, cut the lead to six at the break, 29-23, by scoring the last seven points of the half.

The Cougars started the second half by scoring the first six points to tie the game, while continuing to force foul trouble in the Warrior post, as both Derr and Mueller picked up their third fouls in the first five minutes of the half.
