WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With two second-half goals, the Lycoming College men's soccer team moved into a tie for second place in the Commonwealth Conference and helped the team break the school record for shutouts in a season, posting their 11
th of the year in a dominating 2-0 win over Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18.
Â
Senior
Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) stopped four shots, all in the first half, to earn his ninth shutout of the season and the 19
th of his career, leaving him one shy of the school's record of 10 shutouts in a season set by David Bald in 2008. It was the team's 11
th shutout of the year, though, thanks to one combined effort and one shutout from sophomore
Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh), breaking the team's record mark of 10 shutouts set by the 2004, 2008 and 2013 squads.
Â
In the process, the Warriors (11-2-3 overall, 3-2 Commonwealth) moved into a tie for second-place in the league with Hood (8-6 overall, 3-1 Commonwealth) as they head into the final two weeks of the regular season. Lycoming has a magic number of seven points in their last four games in order to clinch a second straight appearance in the conference tournament.
Â
Lycoming fired nine shots in the first half, but it wasn't until the second half that the team capitalized, with senior
Kevin Seymour (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) sending a cross into the box that found the head of freshman
Nathan Harding (Secretary, Md./North Dorcester), who delivered the header off the crossbar and into the center of the net in the 61
st minute.
Â
In the 72
nd minute, the Warriors earned a corner kick, and freshman
Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) connected into the left corner off the corner kick from senior
Luke Klingler (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area), giving the team an insurance goal.
Â
The Warrior defense played stout once again, allowing just seven shots to the Knights, with only two coming in the second half. Lycoming, meanwhile, took 13 shots and added seven corner kicks.
Â
Seth Shoap stopped five shots in the loss for Arcadia and both Tyler Ihle and Bradley McKim led the team with two shots.
Â
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 25, when they head to Hood for a key 3 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
