Warriors sweep Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, Pa. – After a five-set win on Tuesday night, the Lycoming College volleyball team got back on the court on Wednesday night, Oct. 15, and enjoyed a much shorter night, beating Lancaster Bible College, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-19) in non-conference action.
 
Sophomore Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) led the Warriors (15-12 overall) with nine kills and seven digs and junior Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) added eight kills and three blocks. Sophomore Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) posted seven kills and eight digs and sophomore Maggie Slawson (Armagh, Pa./United) added six kills, eight digs and two blocks.
 
Defensively, the team was led by sophomore Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) notched four kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Sophomore Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) added 31 assists, three aces, four kills and five digs in a well-rounded effort.
 
The Warriors broke open a 9-9 tie in the first set with a 10-2 run, as Slawson led the run with two kills, helping the team cruise to the 25-17 win. In the second set, the Chargers closed within a point at 19-18 before the Warriors got kills from Jahn and Fink to start a 6-3 run to close the set. The third set was also close most of the way throughout, with the Chargers closing within 21-19, but two kills from Fink and one from Richardson helped Lycoming close the set with four straight points.
 
Lancaster Bible (13-12 overall) was led by Myranda Kemrer, who notched nine kills, nine digs and five aces and Hannah Derr, who notched 21 assists and 10 digs.
 
The Warriors get back on the court with an important Commonwealth Conference tri-match at Hood on Saturday, Oct. 18, as they face first-place Stevenson at 1 p.m. before playing host Hood at 3 p.m.
